The Big Bad Wolf?

Wolves are cute lovable creatures and are majestic and fluffy. Wolves are not bad and actually help things like vegetation by eating and pushing away the animals that eat too much of it. This is called a trophic cascade.

Wolves have a bad side at times though. In the 1930 wolves were eradicated in France because they were killing shepherds sheep and other livestock.

Overall I think that wolves are a good thing for the earth and that if they weren’t alive that the earth would look a lot different to today.

Do you think that wolves deserve the title of the big bad wolf?

Fabulous Frequencies

Hey Readers, today I made a screencastify on how to do a maths question that I made. My maths question is about the frequencies or the chance of the coin landing on heads. So I flipped a coin fifty times and recorded the results. The coin landed on heads 21 times and on tails 29 times. Have you ever made a chance math question before

Yellow stone park

Hey bloggers, today I made a Minecraft world on the trophic cascaded Yellowstone park.
In Yellowstone National Park, in America, wolves were eradicated from the environment. This had a detrimental effect on the land as the elk was taking over, eating the shrubs, and damaging the environment. The National Park was becoming barren and exposed.

In 1995, wolves were reintroduced into the park where they began a trophic cascade. This is where other species benefit from their presence and the environment flourishes and regenerates.
Because of the wolves in the park, the elk weren’t grazing by the rivers as they could be easily hunted. Some of them were killed for food by the wolves and the elk population slowed. With less elk, the trees could regenerate, and in some places their growth quintupled. More trees meant more migratory birds arrived,, as well as songbirds, and more trees meant more beavers and otters. Bears returned to the area as there were berries and carrion to eat. The carrion that the wolves left behind was attracting rodents and hawks.

The reintroduction of wolves also affected the course of the rivers as the banks became more stable and so they meandered less. Having wolves back in the park had a positive impact on Yellowstone National Park

I did a renderforest and thought that V energy would melt the fastest as energy drinks eat away at your teeth. turns out that water melted the ice quickest as all the cold water from the ice cube travels to the bottom of the beaker and pushes the room temperature water up to the tp and melts the ice. have you ever done a school science experiment?

Awesome Art

Hey Readers, today we made some art on the southern and northern lights or as what the greeks call them aurora borealis and australis. The southern and northern lights are lights of different colours in the sky both at the north and south poles. It occurs by parts of the sun travelling to the earth and collide with the nitrogen and oxygen atoms and create the beautiful colours of what we call auroras

We created this art by ripping paper into a mountain range shape then used masking tape and stuck it onto black paper. Next, we used white acrylic and a brush and flicked it onto the black paper to make the milky way. next, we used pastel to make the colours and moved it up with our fingers and let it dry.
Have you ever made art based on the northern and Southern lights?

Ridiculous Reading

When reading a book, have you ever been curious about something you were reading, and
wanted to find out more to help you understand what you were reading better? We have been
learning about how important this is this week in Literacy.

When we read The Magic School Bus inside the human body’ I formed some advanced
questions using ‘how’ and ‘why’. I made sure they were open-ended questions that would help
me understand the book more. An example of one of my questions was “Why are intestines
coiled up?’ and I then researched and found out that an adults intestine is 7.5m long, so it needs
to coil up so that it fits in the body.

Next, we got to choose our own book to read out of our virtual library and we had to form 3
advanced questions about it. Ours create task this week was to share these in a creative way. I
chose to do it with Renderforest and it was about a book called ‘In His Blood'

I really enjoyed this task as it made me realise how important it is to do this when reading to
understand the text better.

Do you ever do further research when you are reading a book to deepen your understanding?

Ironic Comic

Hey Readers, today we made a comic about irony. There are 3 different types of irony. The first one I situational irony, situational irony is when you think something is going to happen but what happened is completely the opposite. The next type of irony is verbal irony, verbal irony is like sarcasm. Verbal irony is when someone says something in a tone that relates to the exact opposite of what they said. The final type of irony is dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is when you see something that the other person can't see. It's like when people can see a shark coming up behind someone and people are screaming shark but the person can't hear them. have you ever made an irony comic strip?

Imaginative Isometrics

Hey Readers, today I made different isometric shapes. An Isometric shape is a 3d shape that has 3 different views, birds eye, front and side view. We were given 5 connectible blocks to make any shape and we had to shade a side. After we had done 3 different formations we were given another 5 blocks to make more shapes. The dots on the page helped us to draw them and it was quite hard as we needed to draw it in 3d. Have you ever made drawn 3d isometric shapes?

The Traumatic Twits

Kia ora Bloggers,

This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.

An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and
add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference.
For example, when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that
this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair
nets and this is required in all food factories.

What’s going on in this picture? Look closely at the image above or view it in a larger size, then tell us what you see by posting a comment. On Thursday afternoon, we will reveal more about the image and its origins at the bottom of this post.

The text that we read a snippet out of ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.

I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.

Have you read The Twits before? Do you agree with my inferences? What inferences would you make about the characters?

See you next time!

Roberto Britto Portrait

Hey readers Fletcher here, and this is my first blog post of 2020.
Do you want summer to end I don't think so but let's get on with the blog post.
